I started working as a full time wedding photographer in 2016. CRAZY! So many things have changed over the last decade. Trends have come and gone but this one is here to stay. 99% of the weddings I have photographed the last 10 years were weddings with a photo team, meaning a second photographer. Your wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime event with no “do-overs”. While a strong primary photographer (lead photographer) is essential, hiring a second professional—often called a “second shooter”—has become a standard recommendation for modern couples in 2026 to ensure comprehensive coverage and peace of mind. This is why ALL my packages include a second photographer by default – I got youuu!

Here is why my second shooters are SO important:
Getting ready photos: I usually am with the bride and her girls while I send my second to hang with the boys. Or for non-traditional weddings, we split among partners to get a balanced mix of both during the beginning of the day! Another example would be…
Cocktail Hour/Portraits: You are away taking sunset portraits, your second photographer can capture candid shots of your guests enjoying cocktail hour and the pristine reception details before the crowd enters.
Some of the most emotional moments happen in a split second from two different angles:
The Processional: One camera focuses on the bride walking down the aisle, while the second captures the groom’s immediate, raw reaction.
The First Kiss: You can get a tight, intimate shot of the kiss alongside a wide, cinematic shot of the entire venue and your guests cheering.
Speeches: While the primary photographer focuses on the person giving the toast, the second can capture the laughter or tears of the couple and their parents/guests.
My second photographer doesn’t just give you more photos—they also provide a different creative “eye.” While I am busy getting all the MUST HAVE shots, my second can slow down and get more fun and creative photos.
Candid Storytelling: While I handle all formal shots, my second is free to hunt for “in-between” moments, like children playing or a grandparent sharing a quiet smile.
Creative Variety: Many photographers use the second shooter to experiment with artistic angles, different lenses, or “outside the box” compositions that add depth and dimension to your final gallery.
